A satisfying pasta dinner can bring together several ingredients without requiring complicated preparation. Chicken pasta primavera is a lovely example, pairing tender pasta with crisp-tender vegetables and golden chicken pieces.
A creamy sauce ties everything together, while lemon adds a fresh, slightly tangy finish that keeps the dish from feeling too heavy.

Ingredients for Chicken Primavera Pasta

2 large boneless, skinless chicken portions (about 1½ lb)
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
8 oz penne
½ cup all-purpose flour
4 oz finely grated Parmesan, divided
1 large egg
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb asparagus
8 oz green beans
6 garlic cloves
1 cup frozen peas
¾ cup heavy cream
4 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp white miso
Zest and juice of 1 large lemon
Thin lemon zest for serving

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

1. Prepare the chicken. Divide each chicken portion lengthwise to create four thinner cutlets. Place them between sheets of plastic wrap and gently flatten them to an even thickness of about ¼ inch. Season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
2. Cook the penne. Bring a large bowl of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook it until slightly firmer than the texture you want to serve. Follow the package timing, stopping about one minute early. Drain the pasta but reserve approximately 2 cups of its cooking water.
3. Make the coating. Combine the flour with half of the grated Parmesan on a plate. In a shallow bowl, whisk the egg until blended. Coat each chicken cutlet in the flour and cheese mixture, dip it into the egg, then return it to the flour mixture. Press gently so the coating adheres evenly.
4. Cook the chicken. Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Cook the cutlets in two batches, adding more oil if necessary. Turn them halfway through and cook for approximately 6–8 minutes, until golden and fully cooked. Transfer the pieces to a cutting board.
5. Prepare the vegetables. Use the same skillet to cook the asparagus and green beans, stirring frequently for about four minutes until tender but still slightly firm. Add the chopped garlic and stir for another minute until fragrant.
6. Create the creamy sauce. Add the frozen peas, heavy cream, butter, white miso, cooked penne, and the remaining Parmesan. Stir everything together, gradually adding reserved pasta water as needed. Continue mixing until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes thick and smooth.
7. Add the finishing flavor. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the lemon zest and juice, then taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper. If the sauce feels too thick, add another small splash of pasta water.
8. Serve the dish. Slice the cooked chicken into strips and arrange it over the pasta. Finish with thin pieces of lemon zest before dividing the meal among four plates.

Serving and Practical Tips

Serve the pasta while the sauce is still creamy and the chicken coating retains its crisp texture. The lemon finish provides a fresh contrast to the richness of the cream, butter, and Parmesan. For a smoother sauce, add the reserved pasta water gradually rather than pouring it all in at once. The starchy liquid helps the sauce cling to the penne and vegetables. Keep the chicken separate until the final serving stage so its golden coating does not become too soft.
Chicken pasta primavera combines a creamy pasta base, fresh-tasting vegetables, and Parmesan-coated chicken in one satisfying meal. The asparagus, green beans, and peas bring variety to every serving, while garlic, miso, and lemon give the sauce a balanced flavor. With a little preparation and a single skillet for the chicken and vegetables, this recipe offers a practical way to make a complete homemade dinner. Serve it freshly prepared for the best combination of creamy pasta and crisp, golden chicken.
