Looking for a quick dinner that delivers bold flavours without hours in the kitchen? These spicy chicken lettuce wraps combine juicy minced chicken, aromatic garlic, fresh herbs and a deliciously sticky sauce, all tucked into crisp lettuce leaves.
Inspired by Southeast Asian flavours, this dish brings together the perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, heat and freshness. Sriracha adds a spicy kick, brown sugar softens the intensity, and a squeeze of lime gives every bite a refreshing finish.
Ready in just 20 minutes, these lettuce wraps are ideal for busy weeknights, relaxed lunches or sharing with friends.

What Makes These Lettuce Wraps Special?

The appeal of this recipe lies in its contrasting flavours and textures. Warm, savoury chicken pairs beautifully with cool lettuce, while crunchy fried shallots add an extra layer of texture.
The sauce is particularly important. Soy sauce provides a rich, salty foundation, fish sauce adds depth, and brown sugar creates a subtle caramel-like sweetness. Sriracha brings everything together with its distinctive chilli and garlic flavour.
Fresh mint and coriander provide brightness, preventing the filling from feeling too heavy.
Unlike traditional wraps made with bread or tortillas, lettuce leaves keep the dish light and refreshing while allowing the chicken filling to take centre stage.

How To Make Spicy Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Step 1: Prepare the sauce.
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sriracha and fish sauce.
Stir thoroughly until the sugar begins to dissolve and the ingredients form a smooth mixture. Set aside while preparing the chicken.
Step 2: Cook the aromatics.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
Add the sliced spring onions and chopped garlic. Cook for approximately three minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant.
A little golden colour is perfectly fine, but avoid letting the garlic burn.
Step 3: Brown the chicken.
Add the minced chicken to the pan and season lightly with kosher salt.
Cook for five to seven minutes, breaking the meat into small pieces with a wooden spoon.
Stir occasionally to ensure the chicken cooks evenly. Continue until the meat is fully cooked, with no pink remaining.
Step 4: Add the spicy sauce.
Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and stir until every piece is evenly coated.
Continue cooking for approximately two minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce by half.
The finished filling should be juicy, aromatic and lightly coated in a glossy sauce.
Step 5: Assemble the lettuce wraps.
Separate the lettuce leaves, rinse them thoroughly and pat them dry.
Spoon a generous portion of warm chicken into each leaf.
Top with fresh mint, coriander and crispy fried shallots. Finish with a squeeze of lime juice and an additional drizzle of sriracha if desired.
Serve immediately while the chicken is warm and the lettuce remains crisp.

Tips For The Best Results

Choose butter lettuce or Bibb lettuce for its soft, flexible leaves. Boston lettuce is another excellent option, while romaine provides a firmer, crunchier base.
Avoid overfilling the leaves, as smaller portions are easier to fold and eat.
For a milder version, reduce the amount of sriracha. If you enjoy extra heat, add a little more sauce when serving.

What To Serve With Lettuce Wraps

These wraps make a satisfying light meal on their own, but steamed jasmine rice is an excellent accompaniment.
Coconut rice adds a subtle sweetness that complements the spicy chicken particularly well.
For a different presentation, serve the chicken mixture over rice and finish with lettuce, herbs, crispy shallots and lime. If preparing the dish ahead, store the cooked chicken separately from the lettuce and toppings. Refrigerate the filling promptly and consume within three to four days.
With their vibrant flavours, juicy filling and refreshing crunch, these spicy chicken lettuce wraps prove that an impressive homemade dinner can be wonderfully simple.
